How to daypart Meta ads (lifetime budget, daily budget, and when not to)

If the ad set is on a daily budget, Meta will not give you a real hour calendar. That is the whole trap.

Meta dayparting is Ad scheduling on the ad set. Facebook ads day parting is the same button with an older name. The control only exists as a real clock when the ad set uses a lifetime budget.

Direct answer: Two tracks. Lifetime budget: Ads Manager Ad scheduling is a real clock. Turn off proven dead hours. Daily budget: there is no native calendar. Dim spend in those hours with a throttle (floor, stepped, hold in learning) or leave 24/7. Do not plus-up 7-9pm in the same edit. Why the button is missing: why Meta dayparting doesn't work. Throttle rails: daily-budget throttle.

Sixty days of hourly results, grouped into retail blocks. Only the block that is confidently below average is proposed as OFF, and never more than half the week.
Honest scope: Ralph can show a 7-by-24 heatmap and suggest blocks from your hours. Native adset_schedule apply is lifetime only, approved, flag off. Daily sets use the same suggestion shape but mechanism: throttle: stepped daily-budget writes, not a fake calendar. We will not pretend those are the same control.

If Meta rejected your schedule outright, the specific error is unpicked in pacing type incompatible with day parting.

LifetimeYes. Hours in account timezone. Pacing type becomes day parting. This is the real clock.
DailyNo. The calendar is not there.Throttle: dim the daily budget in loss hours, restore later. Ads stay on. How that works.

Almost every "I cannot find Ad scheduling" ticket is a daily-budget ad set. Ads Manager is not hiding the feature to annoy you. The object cannot hold it.

Daily budget skips the middle two boxes. That is why the button is missing.

How to do it in Ads Manager

  1. Confirm ad account timezone. If Shopify is London and the ad account is Eastern, your "evening" is someone else's afternoon.
  2. Run time-of-day (and day-of-week) breakdowns for 28-90 days. Sort by spend, then CPA or purchase ROAS. Starving cells are not evidence.
  3. Pick one prospecting ad set that already uses, or can move to, lifetime budget.
  4. Ad set → Budget & schedule → Ad scheduling. Uncheck hours you can defend. Keep every day at least partly ON. First pass: do not darken more than half the week.
  5. Do not change creative, audience, and the clock on the same day.

Definition of the job: what is dayparting.

Advantage+, catalog, and CBO

Advantage+ shopping and catalogue / DPA surfaces are demand hunters. They need room. A 10:00-16:00 window is how you get a learning tantrum and a Slack thread about "Meta is broken."

If catalog ads are wasting money, the first leak is usually an OOS size, not Tuesday at 3am. Fix availability and core-size before you decorate the clock: variant OOS, core-size.

Campaign budget (CBO) still dayparts at the ad set. Do not expect a campaign-level hour calendar to save a messy structure.

A sensible first Meta schedule

Not folklore. A starting cut many UK DTC accounts can test after the data agrees:

Fashion evening peaks are a prior, not a default plus-40%. Fashion dayparting.

Track B: stay on daily, throttle instead

Most Shopify ad sets will stay on daily. That is fine. You are not blocked from dayparting. You are blocked from Meta's calendar. The second mechanism dims the daily budget in flagged hours and walks it back:

That is what Ralph applies on daily sets after you approve. You can approximate it with Automated Rules if you like pain. Full playbook and worked £100 walk-down: throttle dayparting. Diagnosis if you still think the feature is "broken": why it doesn't work.

What Ralph will and will not do here

When hourly rows exist, Ralph can pool them into retail blocks (overnight, breakfast, daytime, afternoon, evening, late) and mark a block weak only when it is confidently below average. No invented schedule on empty data. Never suggest OFF for more than half the week. Never suggest an all-OFF day. Lifetime sets can take native apply. Daily sets take the throttle worker. Same proposal, different write. Both approved, flag-gated. Why that shape.

Common Meta mistakes (we see these weekly)

If spend is leaking and the clock looks fine, go back to stock: ads when stock is thin.

Do this yourself before any tool

0 of 7 done. Ticks stay on this device. When they are all ticked you know exactly what a desk would be doing for you.

Set a native Meta ad schedule yourself

  1. Confirm the ad account timezone. Business settings / ad account. Write it down. London vs Eastern will invert your evening.
  2. Open Ads Manager breakdowns. Last 28-90 days. Breakdown by time of day (and day of week if volume allows). Ignore starving cells.
  3. Choose native clock or throttle. Need hours fully OFF? Lifetime budget, then Ad scheduling. Staying on daily? Do not hunt a missing calendar. Use a stepped throttle or leave 24/7.
  4. Set Ad scheduling. Turn off only the hours you can defend. Keep at least one ON block every day. Do not OFF more than half the week on the first pass.
  5. Leave catalog and Advantage+ wider. If you must cut, cut deep overnight only. Re-read in 14 days.

Questions people actually ask

How do I daypart Facebook or Meta ads?

Open the ad set. If it is lifetime budget, Ad scheduling is the native clock in the ad account timezone. If it is daily budget, there is no calendar. Dim spend with a throttle or switch that one set to lifetime. Do not hunt a hidden button.

Why can't I see Ad scheduling on my Meta ad set?

Almost always because the ad set uses a daily budget. Meta's native adset_schedule is a lifetime-budget feature. Advantage+ and some catalog setups also hide or ignore a tight clock.

Should I daypart Advantage+ shopping or catalog ads?

Usually no, or only a blunt overnight OFF after you have proof. Those products buy demand across the catalogue. A 12-hour window is how you starve them and then blame the algorithm.

What timezone does Meta dayparting use?

The ad account timezone, not your laptop and not Shopify's store timezone unless you set them the same. Check that before you turn off 'evening'.

Can Ralph apply a Meta daypart for me?

It can propose loss hours from your hourly history. Lifetime sets: native schedule after approve. Daily sets: stepped throttle after approve. Flag off by default. Throttle is not OFF.

How much history do I need?

Enough that weak hours still have spend, not three purchases. A useful floor is several weeks of hourly rows. If the heatmap is mostly empty, do not schedule.

If the hours are the problem: Ralph reads sixty days of your hourly results, proposes the switch-off with floors, and applies it on Meta after you approve. On Google he recommends the schedule. See Ralph · How Ralph dayparts · Docs
