“Just put it live, we will optimise” is how you learn the same lesson at full CPC.
A review gate is not bureaucracy when you are three people. It is a pause long enough to catch the dumb stuff.
Minimum review checklist
- Does the landing URL match the promise in the ad?
- Can we fulfil the hero SKUs for at least a couple of weeks at expected velocity?
- Discount and margin: still a business after the code?
- Tracking: primary conversion still fires?
- Who owns the kill switch if it misbehaves on day two?
Write the answers somewhere shared. Slack threads evaporate.
Who approves
On a tiny team, it might be the founder and one other person. On a slightly larger team, growth lead plus whoever owns stock. The point is a second brain, not a committee.
What “pending review” should feel like
Packages land complete enough to judge: offer, audience sketch, creative angles, landing, email if it is part of the story. Not a single lonely primary text and a shrug.
If your process is “designer drops a zip, media buyer improvises”, you will keep shipping half-thoughts. Operators who package work before launch waste less money. That packaging idea is central to how we think about a campaign pipeline.
What “fast” actually means
A fifteen-minute gate is faster than a three-day cleanup. If review takes days, your package definition is wrong — not the idea of review.
Questions people actually ask
I am the only person?
Use a written checklist and overnight wait on big spends. Future-you is the second brain.
Anti-patterns
- Review that only looks at creative taste and ignores stock.
- Review that takes three days because five people must emoji-react.
- “Soft launch” that is actually full budget with fingers crossed.
Keep the gate light and mean. If something fails the checklist, it does not ship. No charm offensives.
Make the package the unit of work
If your team still hands off “a primary text”, change the definition of done. Package-complete or it does not enter review. That single standard removes half the chaos in small marketing teams.
If you want stock, ads and the morning list in one place: that is what we built Ralph for — a growth operator for Shopify, with review before anything ships. Not magic. Fewer tabs. See Ralph · Docs
